Who am I?
Another day, another creative’s website.
Seán Sheehy is an Irish theatre maker living in London, currently working as a freelance writer, director, and lighting and set designer. As his background is in production and lighting design, his work often revolves around strong imagery that deepens interpersonal connection on stage and highlights thematic motifs.
Seán identifies the directorial process as embodiying the lighthouse that guides the departments’ ships to their fullest potential. Working closely with each of the department’s ‘captains,’ Seán holds collaboration sacred. Each person he has worked with can attest to his nurturing and encouraging spirit that supports each creative on their respective journey.
In his writing, Seán is interested in exploring the beauty in the boring. Seán places the audience as a fly on the wall of ordinary places to investigate the rich tapestry of interpersonal connections of the characters and lets the audience absorb what would otherwise go unnoticed. As a sunshine optimist, even in dire situations, Seán looks to highlight the beauty of humanity as a response of the opositional nature of today’s political climates.
Seán completed a BSc in International Psycology at University College Dublin. It was here, while working as the Production Manager for UCD Musical Society, that he developed his practice. Using his psychology background, Seán not only seeks to understand the mental state of the characters and society of a project, but he places a large emphasis on ensuring good working practices to ensure the physical and mental wellbeing of everyone he colloborates with.
Additionally, Seán trained as a lighting designer and production manager under Pablo Souki at the Univeristy of Miami. Currently, Seán is completing his MA in Theatre Directing at the University of East London.
